The Come Back to Colfax – Marathon Goody Bag gives your business a free way to bring in business and reach thousands of marathon runners and supporters.

BID wins $15,050 Federal Grant for Lake Steam Baths Renewable Project

When the BID and owner of the Lake Steam Baths were exploring ways to go green and save monthly operating costs, the idea of installing solar thermal heating quickly rose to the top. But solar is expensive and financing the installation became critical to moving forward with this renewable energy project. The BID found a US Treasury program providing grant funds for renewable energy projects, such as solar and wind farms through Section 1603 of the IRC, and determined that the proposed solar thermal installation at the Steam Baths was indeed eligible for the grant (along with a state rebate). The BID helped Lake apply for funds in 2011, which the owner Hannon Hymen recently received. Hannon is delighted that the funding came through, . . . and with his new solar heating system.

Current and Upcoming Projects

With limited financial resources but many creatives living and working in West Colfax, the BID has embraced public art as a vital and high-impact means to beautify the corridor. We devoted a substantial portion of our streetscape improvement budget for the design, fabrication and installation of median sculptures now defining the gateways to West Colfax. The next step is moving from the R-O-W to buildings. This past summer, we installed the black and white mural near the bus stop to the west of the Golden Manor. In the next year, we are looking to additional mural and graphic installations on building exteriors, as well as offering art to businesses for their interiors.

Transit Stop Enhancement

A key recommendation of the Streetscape Master Plan, the BID has begun an on-going effort to improve existing bus shelters on West Colfax with artwork and sustainable lighting upgrades. Recently completed upgrades include the solar pedestrian lights sighted in proximity to bus stops and a mural backdrop for a bus stop. We plan to make additional improvements aimed to improve pedestrian comfort and safety and promote transit usage.

To complement these upgrades, we encourage businesses to participate RTD’s Adopt-a-Spot program for bus stop maintenance. More information can be found at the RTD website.
